What’s the easiest way to combine iPhone videos into one long video?

I have a large collection of family videos recorded on my iPhone, and I'd like to combine them into a single file so they play continuously, similar to an old VHS tape. I don't need transitions or other editing—just place the clips one after another in the right order. I'd like to save the result on a USB drive for my child to watch in the future without opening each video manually. Ideally, I'd prefer to do this directly on the iPhone, but I'm also concerned about the final file becoming huge and would consider exporting at a lower quality if necessary. What would be the simplest approach for someone who isn't very tech-savvy?

iMovie is probably the simplest option. Create a new movie, select the clips in the order you want, and export the finished project as one video file. You can choose a smaller resolution during export if the file is too large. It can be done on the iPhone, although a very long project may take a while and require plenty of free storage.

A tool such as LosslessCut can join compatible clips without re-encoding them, so there’s no quality loss and it’s usually faster than exporting through a full editor. The catch is that it’s more practical on a computer, and clips with different formats or settings may need to be re-encoded before they can be joined cleanly.

For long-term preservation, first copy the original videos to an external hard drive or another reliable backup. Keep those untouched as your archive, then make a combined, lower-resolution version for convenient viewing. That way, compressing the viewing copy won’t permanently reduce the quality of your originals.

You don’t necessarily need to merge the files at all. A media player such as VLC can make a playlist and automatically play each clip after the previous one. That gives you the VHS-style experience while keeping the original videos unchanged, but the playlist itself may not work automatically on every television or USB device.
