I'm looking for an affordable email security solution for a small charity that has fewer than 10 Microsoft 365 accounts. I'm about to help set up a brand new 365 tenancy shortly. While I've previously used Mimecast for a larger organization, I'm not familiar with providers that cater to such a small number of accounts. Any recommendations?

Honestly, with such a small setup, paying for extra security like email filters might not even be necessary. You can download the Microsoft 365 security benchmark from the CIS Security website to see what settings to tweak for better protection.
If the charity qualifies as a non-profit, they'll actually get 10 free Business Premium licenses, which already have some solid filtering options included. I recommend using the preset features they offer; it should do the trick well enough!
I’ve seen others suggest using Defender for 365, which is included for free with Business Premium licenses. It’s a solid choice!
Definitely have them register at techsoup.org. They can help secure free licenses, and in addition to the 10 Office licenses, they can get unlimited Microsoft 365 E1 licenses. We were a non-profit and had access to 500 free users at one point! Plus, TechSoup has tons of other software options that are either free or discounted.
You'd probably be better off utilizing the built-in filters that come with the Business Premium or higher licenses instead of paying for additional services.
