Why did I get banned from askscience for mentioning ChatGPT?

So, I was having a serious discussion about how effective chainmail is against lightning strikes, and I thought it'd be interesting to include an opinion from ChatGPT on the matter. I made sure to mention where the info was coming from, and I honestly found the AI's take to be a bit more pessimistic than mine. Out of nowhere, I got permanently banned from the subreddit! I wasn't even a subscriber and just jumped in to respond to a random thread. I assume my only 'crime' was referencing an AI. How many other Reddit communities have rules against this? Has anyone else faced a similar situation?

I totally get your pain. I usually just create a new account when I get banned from a subreddit because some of them can be super strict. Just be careful not to get a longer ban for making new accounts!

Yeah, that can definitely backfire. I’ve got loads of karma built up from different accounts, but it’s risky.

Honestly, that sounds like a harsh reaction from the moderators. It feels like as long as you’re being transparent about where the info comes from, there shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe they don't want AI opinions muddying real discussions? Still, kinda silly if you ask me!

That’s so frustrating! I can’t believe they’d ban you for citing AI, especially when you were just sharing information. It seems a bit out of hand. Not sure about the rules for other subreddits, but I've seen mixed responses to AI mentions across Reddit. Some are okay with it, while others freak out.

Yeah, I had a post flagged once just for mentioning AI too. It's like some subs are really touchy about it.
