I'm building my first PC in the United States and have about $1,400 to spend. I'm looking for an AMD-based system with DDR5 memory, M.2/NVMe storage, and strong 1080p or 1440p gaming performance. It should handle demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 6, and future releases reasonably well, while remaining useful and upgradeable for several years. I'm new to choosing PC parts and would appreciate advice on which components to prioritize, what parts work well together, and what mistakes or unnecessary upgrades to avoid. I can reach a Micro Center, but the nearest location is roughly four hours away, so online or locally available alternatives would be preferable. I initially had a seven-core AMD processor in mind, although I may be misunderstanding the available CPU options.

There is no truly future-proof PC. The best approach is to buy the strongest balanced system you can reasonably afford now, then upgrade when performance no longer meets your expectations. For this budget, target smooth 1440p gaming rather than trying to guarantee maximum settings in every future game, and leave room in the case and power supply for a later graphics-card upgrade.
AMD generally offers six-, eight-, and higher-core desktop processors rather than seven-core models. For gaming, prioritize the graphics card and consider an X3D chip if its price fits the budget; extra cores alone do not guarantee better game performance. A sensible build would include 32GB of DDR5, a 1TB or 2TB NVMe SSD, a quality power supply, and a motherboard with a current upgrade path. Avoid spending too much on cosmetic features or an oversized CPU when that money could improve the GPU.
If the trip is practical, a Micro Center bundle with an AMD X3D processor, compatible motherboard, and DDR5 memory could offer strong value. Pairing that with a capable upper-midrange graphics card would make a very good 1440p system. Since the store is about four hours away, compare the bundle price against online CPU, motherboard, and RAM deals before making the drive.
I can reach the Miami location, but it would be a four-hour drive, so I’d prefer to find an equivalent parts list online or at a nearby store if the savings aren’t substantial.
