I'm using an MSI B850 motherboard and want to enable the rated speed for my RAM. In the BIOS, there's an EXPO/XMP option in the Memory section on the left, but there's also a gear next to DRAM on the right. That menu only shows XMP or Default. What's the difference between these two controls, and which one should I change?

For an AMD system, use the EXPO profile rather than XMP. EXPO is designed for AMD memory controllers, while XMP is Intel’s profile format. Select EXPO 1 in the main Memory section; it should apply the RAM’s advertised settings. If EXPO 2 is available, it may use slightly different or more conservative timings. You generally don’t need to configure both places separately—the second control may be a profile or shortcut display from the same memory settings.
After selecting EXPO, save and reboot, then verify the actual memory speed and timings in BIOS or with a utility such as CPU-Z. Remember that enabling EXPO technically overclocks the memory controller as well, so stability isn’t guaranteed even if the RAM is rated for that speed. If you get crashes or blue screens, try a lower memory speed or more conservative profile. The processor’s official memory specification may be lower than the speed advertised by the RAM.
That clears up the EXPO versus XMP part. I was mainly unsure why the BIOS showed two different locations for the setting, since the DRAM menu only offered XMP or Default.
