I'm building or upgrading a PC and need 16GB of DDR5 memory. Is it better to use one 16GB stick or a matched 2×8GB kit? How much of a performance difference does dual-channel memory make, and is there anything else I should consider before choosing?

Go with a matched 2×8GB kit if you’re sticking with 16GB. It runs in dual-channel mode, giving the CPU more memory bandwidth than a single 16GB stick. The improvement depends on the workload, but games and integrated graphics can benefit noticeably.
A single 16GB stick will still work, and it may be a reasonable budget option, but it runs in single-channel mode until you add another compatible stick. If you choose one stick for future upgrades, make sure you can later add a matching module and that your motherboard supports the planned capacity and speed.
I’m not very familiar with memory compatibility. Besides checking the speed, should I verify anything else when choosing a kit?
