Dell Inspiron 16 5625 crashes during BIOS updates and Windows installation after a RAM upgrade

I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 16 5625 with a 2×8 GB DDR4 memory kit, but the laptop has become unstable during demanding operations. Large driver or BIOS updates sometimes shut the system down, after which it will not start until I disconnect the battery and drain the remaining power. Windows 11 is also damaged after some experimental debloating and testing, so I need to reinstall it, but the computer reportedly fails during OS installation. The display occasionally shows a thin white flicker at the top, and it sometimes stays off when I open the lid after sleep. School technicians ran memory tests and other diagnostics and said the RAM may have timing issues, but I do not understand the memory information from the screenshots. I no longer have the original 8 GB module because I sold it. How can I confirm whether the new RAM is incompatible or faulty, and what is the safest way to get the laptop working again?

The Windows problems and the startup behavior may not be caused by RAM alone. A corrupted Windows installation, BIOS or firmware problem, battery or power issue, motherboard fault, or display/sleep firmware bug could produce similar symptoms. Back up anything important, create a Windows installation USB on another computer, and try a clean installation with only one known-good RAM module installed. If the machine still powers off during the installer or BIOS update, stop retrying the update and have Dell service inspect the board and power system.

The blinking charging light and needing to disconnect the battery after a failed startup sound more serious than ordinary Windows corruption. I would avoid repeated BIOS updates until the hardware issue is identified.

Before attempting another BIOS update, load the BIOS defaults and verify that the replacement memory is a supported DDR4 SO-DIMM kit for the Inspiron 16 5625. Avoid manually changing memory timings; most laptops configure them automatically, and unsupported settings can cause instability. Since you no longer have the original module, the simplest test may be to try one replacement stick at a time or temporarily install a known-compatible Dell memory module.
