We're looking for a reliable Managed File Transfer (MFT) product to replace a large collection of aging scripts and WS_FTP Pro jobs. Our Windows environment uses Task Scheduler to launch scripts that retrieve files and deliver them to various internal and external destinations. The current setup makes it difficult to confirm whether files were transferred successfully and has become increasingly difficult to maintain. We operate in healthcare, so an on-premises solution with strong auditing, verification, security, and compliance support would be ideal. Recommendations and lessons from similar migrations would be appreciated.

We recently replaced more than two decades of Perl scripts with GoAnywhere MFT in an entirely on-premises environment. It isn’t flashy, but it handles scheduled transfers, workflows, logging, and file movement reliably. For a healthcare organization, I’d also verify its auditing, access controls, encryption, and compliance capabilities during evaluation.
Before choosing a product, make sure the replacement supports your required healthcare controls and produces useful transfer evidence. You should be able to see whether a file was picked up, delivered, retried, or rejected, along with timestamps and user or system activity. SFTPGo is another relatively straightforward option to evaluate for on-premises secure transfers, although you’ll still need to confirm that it meets your organization’s compliance and workflow requirements.
SureSync is worth considering if your needs are mostly scheduled synchronization or monitoring folders for changes. It can trigger transfers on a schedule or react when files appear, which may be simpler than maintaining custom scripts.
You’ll probably want to narrow down the requirements first: what systems are exchanging files, whether outside organizations are involved, which protocols are required, and what audit or compliance reports you need. Those details will make it much easier to compare products.
It’s a mix of internal and external transfers. We’re on Windows, and scheduled tasks currently launch scripts that move files to their destinations. Since this is healthcare, we’d prefer something that can run on-premises.
