I recently snagged a 5080 at a great price, but I didn't consider some other hardware aspects of my build. Right now, I'm using a 10700k CPU with a motherboard that has an AM4 socket, and I've heard these might be outdated. I play graphically demanding games, so I'm worried about how much of a bottleneck my current setup could pose. Should I look into upgrading my motherboard to an AM5 and getting a new CPU, or perhaps just invest in a better AM4 processor?

Honestly, if you're up for it, selling your current setup and building a new one with the 5080 could be a great move. If that's not in the cards, I’d recommend upgrading to an AM5 motherboard and pairing it with a solid CPU like the 7700x or even the 7800x3d along with some fast RAM. It'll give your system a significant boost!
The 10700K is still decent, but you might want to think long-term for future games.
Just to clarify, AM4 is for AMD chips, while your 10700k is Intel. If you want to stick with AMD, getting a 5700x3d might work out well since it’s cheaper than the 7800x3d but still delivers close performance. Also, keep in mind that at 1440p, the difference between those CPUs isn't massive because your GPU will be doing most of the work. Don’t forget to check your PSU too; 750W is usually the minimum for a 5080, so bumping up to an 850W would be a smart choice.
Just a heads up, you can't actually use an AM4 motherboard with a 10700k. That CPU is Intel, so it’s on a different LGA 1200 socket. However, your CPU is still capable of handling modern titles pretty well. I'd suggest holding off until the next AMD socket (likely AM6) is out before doing an upgrade on CPU and motherboard. Meanwhile, consider upgrading your PSU to at least 850 watts from a reliable brand for safety.
I didn't expect such a big investment! Is it really worth it?
