I'm planning a new gaming PC centered around a Gigabyte RX 9070 XT 16GB and an Intel i5-14600KF. I'd like to reuse my existing 16GB of DDR4-2400 memory rather than spend roughly $300 more on a DDR5 platform. The goal is to play at 1440p for as long as possible, lowering settings or even resolution later if necessary, instead of making regular incremental upgrades. I know 16GB may become limiting and I'm willing to expand to 32GB if needed. Is the slow DDR4 memory likely to seriously hold back this CPU and GPU, and does this overall approach make sense for a system I want to keep for several years?

A similar high-end GPU paired with 32GB of memory can deliver very strong results at 1440p, including high settings and ray tracing when upscaling is enabled. You don’t necessarily need an expensive 5800X3D-class processor for your plan, especially if one is difficult to find locally. The 14600KF is capable, but don’t expect the old DDR4-2400 kit to perform like a modern 3600MHz kit. If you’re buying new memory anyway, 32GB of faster DDR4 may be a better middle ground than trying to stretch 16GB for the entire life of the build.

That would already be a huge jump over my current system. I’m mainly trying to avoid paying for another full platform upgrade until a genuinely newer generation of memory is available.
