I’ve Successfully Dual-Booted Ubuntu and Windows—What Should I Learn Next?

After several hours of work, I finally got Ubuntu dual-booting with Windows. Ubuntu is installed on an older 16-year-old hard drive, while Windows remains on my regular SSD. I also managed to fix some audio problems and other dual-boot issues along the way. Now that everything is working, what would you recommend I learn or try first in Linux? I'm open to beginner tips, useful tools, customization ideas, and general advice for getting comfortable with Ubuntu.

Try not to approach Ubuntu exactly like Windows. Linux is made from many separate components, so a problem with one application, driver, desktop component, or hardware service may not be a problem with Ubuntu as a whole. Learning a little about each part will make troubleshooting much easier. Start with basic terminal navigation, package updates, file permissions, and how to find reliable documentation.

Since you’re using Ubuntu, keep the system updated and make sure you understand where each operating system is installed before changing partitions or boot settings. Create backups of important files, especially while experimenting with dual-boot configurations. Once you’re comfortable, try small projects such as scripting repetitive tasks, customizing the desktop, or setting up a development tool.
