My current gaming PC has a Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32GB of DDR4-3600 memory, and a TUF Gaming B550-PLUS WiFi II motherboard. I mainly play CPU-heavy games such as Total War and Monster Hunter, and I'm hoping to keep this system for several more years. I play at 1440p and don't want to replace the motherboard, so any upgrade would need to stay on AM4. Would moving to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D make a noticeable difference, or should I keep the 5600X?

I went from a 5600X to a 5700X3D with a high-end Radeon card at 1440p and saw substantial gains in several games, including smoother minimums and fewer drops. The upgrade is most worthwhile if you notice the GPU sitting below full utilization while one or more CPU threads are maxed out. If performance already feels smooth, there’s no need to upgrade immediately.
The 5800X3D is the maximum upgrade for your existing motherboard, but it often costs too much compared with the 5700X3D. Unless you find a good deal, the 5700X3D usually makes more financial sense and offers nearly the same gaming experience. Also check motherboard BIOS support and make sure the CPU has adequate cooling.
At 1440p, the 5600X may be perfectly adequate in many games, especially if your GPU is close to full utilization. However, a 9070 XT is powerful enough that the CPU can still become the limit in strategy games, open-world titles, Unreal Engine games, and situations where you want very high minimum FPS. Check GPU usage and frame-time behavior in your regular games rather than relying only on the GPU model.
