Since I'm new to building PCs, I'd especially like to know whether there are any compatibility concerns, weak points, or better alternatives for the money.

The main upgrade I’d consider is faster memory. A 2x8GB DDR4-3600 kit could provide slightly better performance than DDR4-3000, assuming you can find it at a reasonable price. Make sure it’s a matched dual-channel kit rather than a single 16GB module. Also, 16GB is still usable, but 32GB would give you more breathing room for newer games and multitasking if the budget allows.
The Nitro+ card is usually a more premium model, so it may not be worth paying extra over a Pulse or another cooler design. In your case, though, if the Nitro+ is genuinely cheaper than the Pulse, it’s a perfectly sensible choice. Just compare the warranty, dimensions, and power connectors, and confirm that it fits comfortably in the case.
