I recently upgraded my processor from a Ryzen 5 5600X to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and now my 16GB of memory is starting to feel limiting. I currently have a 2x8GB DDR4 kit and want to move up to 32GB. Is it safe to buy another 2x8GB kit from the same brand and model, or would replacing the current kit with a matched 2x16GB kit be better?

Adding another 2x8GB kit can work, especially on AM4, but try to get the exact same model, speed, timings, and voltage. Even kits with the same advertised specs can sometimes behave differently after being purchased years apart.
Four sticks still operate in dual-channel mode on a normal dual-channel AM4 board, so you do not lose dual-channel performance just by filling all four slots. However, four modules can put more stress on the memory controller, and the system may need lower speeds or looser timings if the kits do not cooperate.
The safer option is usually replacing your current memory with a matched 2x16GB kit, ideally DDR4-3600 with timings your motherboard supports. That avoids mixing kits and generally makes memory setup and stability easier. You could sell the old 2x8GB kit afterward.
