I'm looking for a Linux calendar application that handles basic tasks reliably. Several options I've tried either don't seem to support importing .ics files or make the process unclear. KOrganizer looks promising, but I can't find a way to set a default time zone or region; I have to choose it for every event. It also seems to forget configuration changes after restarting. What calendar applications or workflows work well for importing .ics files, retaining settings, and using a consistent time zone?

GNOME Calendar should be able to open an .ics file directly. Find the file in your file manager, right-click it, and choose GNOME Calendar under “Open With.” That should import or display the calendar entry.
Thunderbird includes a calendar with an import function, so it may be worth trying if you already use Thunderbird for email. You can keep your mail and calendar in the same application.
I tried opening the file that way, but it didn't work on my system.
