I have an ASUS laptop with a Ryzen 5 7430U and integrated Radeon graphics, plus 16 GB of system RAM. GTA V warns that the graphics settings may use more than the reported 496 MB of VRAM. If I increase the UMA or reserved VRAM setting to 2 GB or 4 GB, will that improve performance, or could it make the game and laptop run slower?

The warning in GTA V is mostly an estimate based on the graphics adapter’s reported memory. Lowering texture quality, resolution, population settings, and advanced graphics options will have a much bigger effect than changing the UMA setting. You can experiment and restore the original value if necessary, but do not expect extra performance from reserving more VRAM.
Leave the UMA frame buffer around 512 MB if that is the default. Integrated graphics can dynamically use additional system RAM as graphics memory when needed, so the number shown in the BIOS is not the total amount the GPU can access. Increasing the reserved amount usually does not improve performance; it mainly prevents that portion of RAM from being used by other programs.
With 16 GB of RAM, reserving 2–4 GB for the integrated GPU would leave less memory available for Windows and the game. GTA V should still run with 12–14 GB available, but there is generally no reason to reserve that much unless a specific game or driver requires it.
