Should I upgrade my GTX 1050 Ti or replace the whole PC?

I'm considering improving my PC, but I only use it occasionally for gaming and don't need an extreme high-end system. My GTX 1050 Ti is quite old, so I'm wondering whether replacing the graphics card would be enough to make modern games run smoothly, or whether the rest of the system is too outdated to justify an upgrade. Would a newer GPU work well with my current Ryzen 7 2700X, or should I also replace the processor, memory, or other components? A completely new PC would be simpler, but I'd prefer to upgrade this one if it offers better value.

Current system:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 500GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
RAM: HyperX Predator 2666 C13, 2x8GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B450 AORUS ELITE

The 2700X should handle a sensible midrange graphics card, so you could start with the GPU and see how it performs. A Ryzen 5 5600 or Ryzen 7 5700X would reduce CPU limits later. Used RTX 2070 or RTX 3080 cards and newer midrange Radeon cards can offer good value, but check power-supply requirements, card condition, and current prices before choosing.

For a noticeable improvement without spending too much, I’d look at a used Ryzen 5 5600 or 5700X, faster memory around 3000–3200 MT/s, and a midrange GPU with 8–16GB of VRAM. That kind of upgrade should be plenty for occasional 1080p gaming. You probably don’t need a high-end card unless you’re targeting high refresh rates or demanding resolutions.

That makes sense. I’ll check the BIOS support and power supply before deciding, then compare benchmarks for the games I actually play.

This platform still has life in it, so I wouldn’t replace the whole computer automatically. First update the motherboard BIOS and check which Ryzen 5000 processors it supports. A used Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X would be a strong, inexpensive CPU upgrade. Pair that with a midrange GPU such as an RX 6600-class card, RTX 5060-class card, or RX 9060 XT, depending on your budget and the games you play. Check benchmarks for those specific games before buying.
