Is this RX 9070 XT build a good choice for 1440p gaming?

I've gone back and forth between the Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, but I'm leaning toward AMD because I'd rather avoid worrying about potential power-connector issues. Does this look like a well-balanced 1440p gaming build? All prices are in Canadian dollars, and the listed total is about $2,974.93. The parts are a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE, Gigabyte B850M AORUS Elite WiFi6E ICE motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, an Asus RX 9070 XT, Fractal Pop Mini Air case, and a Corsair RM1000e 1000W power supply.

The 1000W power supply is more than enough, but you may be able to save money with a well-reviewed 1050W unit such as the Montech Century II. Check an up-to-date PSU quality list before choosing a replacement, and prioritize a model with the appropriate native GPU power cables.

The connector concern is probably overstated for the RTX 5070 Ti when using the manufacturer’s native power cable correctly. Its power draw is much lower than the RTX 5090, where most of the serious incidents have occurred, and undervolting can reduce consumption further without a noticeable performance loss. Still, the RX 9070 XT is a perfectly reasonable choice if you prefer AMD’s pricing, feature set, and 16GB of VRAM.

The RX 9070 XT makes sense if the RTX 5070 Ti costs around 50% more in your market. It should be excellent for 1440p, and tools such as OptiScaler may let you experiment with newer upscaling options. That said, it’s worth treating those configurations as unofficial and game-dependent rather than guaranteed long-term support.

I’m not familiar with setting that up, so I’m mainly hoping AMD continues supporting the card well with future drivers and features.

Just to clarify, the AMD card cannot directly output DLSS 4.5. OptiScaler can sometimes take supported game inputs and translate them to an available FSR mode, so the results and compatibility vary.
