Is $380 for 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 a good match for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D?

I bought a 2x16GB V-Color Manta XSky DDR5-6000 CL30 kit for $380 and plan to use it with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I was initially unsure whether moving to DDR5 was worthwhile, since some slower DDR4-based CPU options looked slightly more expensive despite being around 20% slower. Was this a reasonable purchase, or did I overpay badly?

The only real alternative would have been choosing a different platform that supports DDR4, but that would mean giving up the 7800X3D. For a new gaming build, pairing this CPU with DDR5-6000 CL30 is completely reasonable.

That was what I was trying to figure out—whether choosing a roughly 20% slower DDR4-compatible CPU would have been worth it just to reduce memory costs. Sounds like sticking with AM5 was the better move.

The specifications are an excellent fit for an AM5 system. DDR5-6000 with CL30 is generally considered a sweet spot for the 7800X3D, and current pricing for comparable kits can be over $400, so $380 is not a bad deal in the current market.

You made a sensible choice. Building an older AM4 or LGA1700 system from scratch just to save a little on DDR4 usually doesn't make much sense, especially if the alternative CPU is slower and costs more. The 7800X3D requires DDR5 anyway, so this is a strong memory choice for that platform.
