I'm new to Linux and recently built a PC with an NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super. I'm considering switching from Windows to Bazzite because it's designed to be gaming-friendly and offers installation images with NVIDIA drivers included. However, I've also heard that NVIDIA hardware can be troublesome on Linux. Should I expect problems with my graphics card, and is there anything I should know before making the switch?

The RTX 4080 Super should work well with Bazzite’s current proprietary NVIDIA drivers. Most of the serious compatibility concerns involve older GPUs that are no longer supported. Bazzite provides NVIDIA-specific images, so the initial setup should be fairly straightforward. The KDE Plasma edition is a good choice if you want a familiar, flexible desktop.
Bazzite is a solid gaming-focused option, and NVIDIA compatibility is much less scary than it used to be. Performance should be good, although brand-new games using demanding features such as path tracing can still have occasional issues. Once installed, ProtonUp-Qt or Proton Plus can help you install alternative Proton versions such as Proton-GE; switching versions often fixes individual game problems.
Your card should be fine. Some of the NVIDIA reputation comes from older problems involving the proprietary driver, X11, and Wayland, but recent driver releases have improved Wayland support considerably. Before installing, it’s a good idea to put Bazzite and perhaps a couple of other distributions on a Ventoy USB drive and test them in live mode. That lets you check display output, networking, audio, and general usability before changing your existing system. Back up anything important first.
