I'm considering switching to Linux, but OneNote is the main thing holding me back. I use it for nearly everything and haven't found an alternative I like. Has anyone managed to run the desktop version with cloud synchronization through Wine or a similar compatibility layer, or is the web app/PWA the only practical option?

It may be worth listing the specific OneNote features you use most. Depending on your workflow, a browser version or another note-taking app might cover the basics, but replacing OneNote completely can be difficult if you depend on its more specialized tools.
I haven’t seen a dependable Wine setup for the current cloud-connected OneNote desktop app. Compatibility may vary between versions, but it doesn’t appear to be a straightforward or reliable solution.
The most practical option seems to be using OneNote in a browser and installing it as a progressive web app. It gives you a dedicated window and an app-like shortcut, but it’s still limited compared with the full desktop client.
That’s the problem for me—the web version feels noticeably worse and misses features I rely on.
