I'm using Windows 11 on a laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, integrated AMD Radeon Graphics, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and an SSD. I don't know much about computer hardware, but most games I try have very low FPS. I usually have to set every graphics option to minimum, and some games are still nearly unplayable. Games released before around 2015 generally run fine, but titles such as BioShock struggle. Is there anything I can do to improve performance, or is the hardware simply too limited?

The main limitation is the integrated graphics. Your Ryzen 7 5700U uses the laptop’s shared system memory for graphics instead of having a separate graphics card, so modern or graphically demanding games can perform poorly. There isn’t a simple setting that will turn it into a gaming laptop; a newer machine with a dedicated GPU would provide the biggest improvement.
Release date alone doesn’t determine how demanding a game is. Some older games, including BioShock, GTA V, and other 3D titles, can still need a dedicated graphics card for consistently good performance. Lightweight older games may run well, while more demanding games may remain slow even at minimum settings. Check each game’s system requirements and compare them with integrated graphics performance before troubleshooting further.
That makes sense. I suspected the graphics hardware might be the main problem, especially since reducing the settings barely helps in some games.
