I'm in California and completely new to building PCs. I have up to $1,200 to spend, though I'd prefer to stay below $1,000. I want the strongest gaming system possible for daily use, ideally capable of 4K gaming and staying relevant for future releases. If 4K isn't realistic at this budget, I'd like an excellent 1440p setup instead. I'm open to buying parts over time and would also appreciate suggestions that offer strong performance without wasting too much energy. I'm considering this as a system for upcoming games, so I'd be grateful for a complete parts direction.

At this price point, a truly high-end 4K system isn’t realistic, especially if you need every component to be new. A well-balanced build around an AM4 platform and an RX 9060 XT-class graphics card should handle most games at 1440p with medium-to-high settings, often around 100–120 frames per second depending on the title. Prioritize the graphics card, a reliable power supply, and an upgradeable motherboard rather than overspending on premium extras.
Used parts can make this budget go much further. A system with a Ryzen 7 7700, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a Radeon RX 7700 XT could come in around $900, depending on local prices. With the full $1,000, you might be able to step up to a newer RX 9060 XT-class card, while a $1,200 budget could also allow 32GB of memory. That would be a solid 1440p machine, but 4K gaming at high settings generally requires more graphics-card budget.
I’m mainly planning for upcoming games, so I’m willing to wait and buy parts gradually if that helps me find worthwhile deals. I’d like the system to be ready for demanding releases rather than rushing into a build.
