I'm in California and completely new to building PCs. I have up to $1,200 to spend, though I'd prefer to stay below $1,000. I want the strongest gaming system possible for daily use, ideally capable of 4K gaming and staying useful for several years. If 4K isn't realistic at this budget, I'd like an excellent 1440p build instead. I'm open to buying parts gradually or considering good-value used components, and I'd also appreciate advice on keeping power consumption reasonable.

Used parts can make this budget go much further. An AM5 build with a Ryzen 7 7700, 16GB of DDR5, and a Radeon RX 7700 XT can come in around $900, depending on local prices. With the full $1,000, you might step up to a newer RX 9060 XT, and the $1,200 limit would leave room for 32GB of memory. That would be a strong 1440p system, although 4K would usually require reduced settings or upscaling.
A truly high-end 4K setup isn’t realistic at $1,000, and even $1,200 is a compromise. A sensible build around an AM4 platform with a Radeon RX 9060 XT could handle most games at 1440p medium settings at roughly 100–120 FPS or more. Prioritize the graphics card, a reliable power supply, and good airflow rather than overspending on extras.
I’m mainly trying to be ready for newer games, so I can wait for sales and buy parts over time if that gives me better value.
