I'm building my first PC and don't know much about computer hardware yet. My dad recently upgraded his gaming computer and gave me the leftover parts, but the system is roughly ten years old. I'm hoping to finish the build around Black Friday and have about $300 to spend on any new parts in the United States. Ideally, I'd like to play games such as E33, Elden Ring, and Final Fantasy VII Remake at 1080p and around 60 FPS. Are the parts worth keeping, and what should I upgrade or replace first?

Unfortunately, a roughly ten-year-old PC is difficult to modernize for only $300. I’d install an SSD if needed and use the system as-is first, but putting significant money into other upgrades probably isn’t worthwhile. You may be better off saving for a newer platform rather than trying to replace several old components at once.
Based on the age of the system, storage is probably the only upgrade that makes sense within this budget. Add an affordable SATA SSD if it doesn’t already have one, then test the computer before spending more. The existing hardware may still handle some games at 1080p on low settings, but a graphics card upgrade would be the next priority. A used card such as an RTX 2070 might fit the budget alongside an SSD, although it probably won’t transform the whole system.
