I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 with a Radeon RX 7600, which I upgraded from an RX 580 about six months ago. I'm considering either the Ryzen 7 5700X or Ryzen 5 5600X3D as my next CPU upgrade. The 5700X offers two additional cores and may have better long-term usefulness, while the 5600X3D is generally stronger for gaming. I mainly play games such as Star Wars Zero Company and Crimson Desert, along with titles like Control, Death Stranding, Fallout 76, and New World. I also use the PC to run my 3D printer. I probably won't build a completely new system for another year or two, so I'd appreciate advice on which processor makes the most sense for my current setup and whether the upgrade would be worthwhile if the RX 7600 is already the limiting component.

Since gaming is your main use, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D is the better choice between these two. Its extra 3D V-Cache can improve gaming performance and frame consistency, especially in CPU-heavy games. The 5700X only makes more sense if you regularly run demanding multithreaded workloads alongside gaming.
The RX 7600 may already be the bottleneck in many games, particularly at higher settings or resolutions. If the GPU is running near full utilization while the CPU has room left, a processor upgrade probably won’t produce a major FPS increase. It’s worth checking CPU and GPU usage while playing before buying anything.
The 5700X is still a solid, practical upgrade and its two extra cores could be useful for background tasks, encoding, or other heavier workloads. However, 3D printing itself usually isn’t demanding enough to require eight cores. For your current GPU and mostly gaming-focused use, a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X3D would likely be the better value. You could then move to a completely new AM5 platform when you’re ready to build again.
