The touchpad on my HP laptop has stopped working, and I have already tried several troubleshooting guides. The settings shown in those guides do not appear on my computer, and tapping twice in the upper-left corner of the touchpad does not enable it. I can use the touchscreen, but I still need help figuring out whether this is a driver, update, hardware-toggle, or model-specific issue.

Connect a USB mouse if possible, then install HP Support Assistant and run all recommended driver and Windows updates. Restart after the updates finish, since missing touchpad settings can sometimes return after the correct drivers are installed.
The exact HP model is important because touchpad settings and drivers differ between laptops. Check the model number on the bottom of the laptop or in System Information, then look for the touchpad driver on HP's support page. It is also worth checking whether the touchpad is disabled with a function-key shortcut or in the BIOS, since the double-tap gesture does not work on every model.
Any advice is welcome. I have already tried several tutorials, but the options shown in them do not match what I see on my laptop.
