Why am I seeing “Your connection isn’t private” on my residence Wi‑Fi?

I didn't have this issue before, but after returning from home my student residence reset its Wi‑Fi accounts, so I had to sign in again. Now, whenever I try to open the login page, my browser shows a "Your connection isn't private" warning. Could this be caused by my laptop, or is there a problem with the residence's Wi‑Fi login website?

The login gateway may be using an expired or incorrectly configured security certificate. If other residents are seeing the same warning, the school or residence’s IT team will need to renew or fix it. Don’t enter your password or personal information until you’ve confirmed the page is legitimate.

If the warning only happens on your laptop, check that your date, time, and time zone are correct, then restart the browser and reconnect to the network. Network or security settings could also be interfering. Avoid disabling your firewall unless the IT staff specifically tells you to, since that reduces your protection.

Thanks! Adjusting the network settings fixed it for me. I’ll contact the residence support team if the warning comes back.

The best next step is to contact your school or residence support desk. They can confirm whether the certificate problem affects everyone and repair the Wi‑Fi gateway if necessary. If it affects only your device, they can help check its network settings.
