I'd like advice on which components would provide the biggest performance improvements, preferably in a sensible order so I can upgrade gradually. My current system has 16GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-7700K running at 4.20GHz, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB, an ASUS Prime H270-Pro motherboard, and about 4.7TB of total storage, including a 1.2TB SSD used for Windows and other main programs. The graphics card already fits tightly in my case, so I may need to consider space and power requirements as well.

The biggest long-term improvement would be moving to a newer CPU and motherboard platform. The i7-7700K is still usable, but newer processors would give your RTX 2070 Super more room to perform, especially in CPU-heavy games. A late-generation AM4 setup or a newer AM5 system would both be worth considering, depending on your budget and local Australian pricing.
For an immediate and relatively simple upgrade, go to 32GB of RAM. It can help with multitasking and newer games, but make sure the additional memory matches your current kit as closely as possible for speed, capacity, and timings. If you replace the platform later, you may need to buy a new RAM type anyway, so check the cost before purchasing.
You don’t necessarily need to replace everything at once. A modern CPU and motherboard would remove the main limitation in this build, while the 2070 Super could continue being used for now. Before buying parts, measure the available GPU length and check the CPU cooler height, since the current case already makes the graphics card a tight fit.
