I noticed that when trying to purchase r8g instances in eu-north-1 for RDS Aurora MySQL, it only lets me buy them for 1 year, while r7g instances are available for 3 years. Has there been a recent change regarding the length of Reserved Instances?

There's definitely been some shifting with AWS. RDS seems to be getting fewer business benefits with the latest Graviton generation 8. It wouldn't surprise me if they're planning to move away from Reserved Instances in the long run. We'll see how it unfolds!

Yep, I've heard from someone at AWS that they considered integrating RDS into the Savings Plans, but it hasn't worked out for them yet.

Yeah, this just highlights the push towards compute saving plans instead of sticking with traditional RIs.

It's possible they might be nudging users towards Savings Plans instead. But remember, RDS currently doesn’t support Savings Plans, only Reserved Instances. So, it might just be a change in what options are available for new instance types.

Yeah, it looks like RDS is sticking to RIs for now. No Savings Plans for them.

Exactly! No savings plans for RDS, so it's definitely about RIs.
