How can I safely ship a fully assembled PC overseas?

I need to ship a desktop PC overseas, but I can't disassemble and reassemble it when it arrives. I'm considering using a large, durable wheeled storage box and packing the computer tightly with soft items such as winter clothes for cushioning. I don't have enough space or the ability to transport it as carry-on or checked luggage. Would that be safe, or is there a better way to protect the components during shipping?

Don’t use clothes as the main packing material. They can shift, snag on components, or create static. Form-fitting expandable shipping foam is a much safer option because it supports the inside of the case without putting pressure on delicate parts. A sturdy computer-shipping box or protective case would be better than a regular storage bin.

I wouldn’t ship it fully assembled if you can avoid it. The graphics card is the biggest concern because its weight can damage the PCIe slot or bend the card when the box is dropped. Remove the GPU and pack it separately. Large air coolers should also be removed, while a basic fan cooler may be less risky.

It’s just air cooled—there’s no water cooling or AIO involved.

If you absolutely have to leave the computer assembled, unplug and remove the graphics card at minimum, then protect it separately. You could also make custom cardboard braces or use anti-static internal supports to keep the components from moving. Be especially careful with tempered-glass panels, which need their own substantial padding.

The safest approach is to break the PC down into parts and transport the fragile components with you, shipping only the case and power supply. If you’re not comfortable identifying or removing the parts, it may be worth having a computer shop do the packing and disassembly rather than risking an expensive GPU or motherboard repair.
