I recently updated Windows and the graphics drivers on a hand-me-down MSI GE72 gaming laptop. After restarting, it became stuck on the "We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes" screen. I have force-shut it down several times because nothing else seemed to work, but the cycle hasn't changed. I'm new to computers and would appreciate beginner-friendly advice for recovering the system without making things worse.

Try entering the Windows Recovery Environment and using System Restore to return the laptop to a point from before the updates. If that works, disconnect it from the internet before restarting, then create a fresh restore point once you reach the desktop. Pause Windows Update temporarily, install a clean graphics-driver package directly from the hardware manufacturer rather than through a bundled updater, and restart before allowing Windows updates to resume. Let the update process finish without powering off the machine.
System Restore failed because it couldn’t extract a file from my OneDrive Desktop, showing error 0x80070780. I also saw a recovery screen saying the hard drive had problems and needed checking.
