My Ryzen 5 5600G appears to have failed, and the system won't boot past the BIOS logo. I've tested the other components and am confident the CPU is the problem. The rest of the build is an RX 6600, 32GB of DDR4, two 1TB Samsung NVMe SSDs, an MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI motherboard, and a 550W power supply. I'd like to stay on AM4 because I can't afford a full AM5 platform upgrade, and I no longer need integrated graphics. What CPU would be a worthwhile long-term upgrade and a good match for a possible RX 9070?

Before buying a replacement, it’s worth making absolutely sure the CPU is the failed part. Is the processor still covered by a warranty?
For gaming on AM4, an X3D chip is the way to go. The 5600X3D or 5500X3D can be good options if you find one at a reasonable price, but availability and pricing vary.
The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is probably the most sensible end-of-the-line AM4 upgrade. It should pair well with a future RX 9070 and gives you extra cores compared with the 5600X3D. Since you’ve already updated the BIOS while troubleshooting, compatibility shouldn’t be an issue. Try not to overpay, and buy from somewhere with a return policy in case the replacement is faulty.
I was already thinking about the 5700X3D, but I wasn’t sure whether the 5600X3D would offer better value for the money.
Unfortunately, it’s around five years old, so it’s outside the warranty period.
