Why is my Windows 11 PC’s Wi‑Fi much slower than my other devices?

My Windows 11 computer only gets around 0.5–2.5 Mbps over Wi‑Fi, while my phone and other devices on the same network reach roughly 20–50 Mbps. The PC uses an ASUS Wi‑Fi antenna, but the connection remains unusually slow. What should I check to figure out whether this is a driver, hardware, or wireless configuration problem?

Check that the correct Wi‑Fi driver is installed. Search for your exact motherboard model followed by “Wi‑Fi driver,” then download the current driver from the motherboard manufacturer’s website. You can also check in Windows Device Manager under Network adapters to see which wireless adapter is installed and whether it shows a warning icon.

You can open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it. Expand “Network adapters” to find the Wi‑Fi device and check its driver details.

A speed that low on an otherwise functional connection often points to an incorrect, missing, or outdated wireless driver. Installing the proper driver for the motherboard’s built-in adapter—or the specific ASUS adapter, if it is a separate device—would be a good early step before changing advanced settings.

First, connect the computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable and run a speed test. If the wired speed is normal, the problem is limited to the PC’s Wi‑Fi connection. That helps narrow it down to the antenna, wireless adapter, signal, or driver rather than the internet service itself.
