I'm considering buying a used white PC that's about a year old, but I'm wondering whether the case or other parts might yellow over time. My room has three windows, plenty of natural light, no air conditioning, and can get fairly warm. I plan to keep the computer for many years. For anyone who has owned a white build for two or more years: have you noticed yellowing, and do sunlight or room temperature make a meaningful difference? Would you choose black instead, or is this mostly a long-term cosmetic issue? I don't smoke, and I'm not particularly attached to the white color—I just want to know whether it should affect the purchase decision.

It usually isn’t an immediate problem. Most white-painted metal panels should stay fairly stable, while white plastic—especially ABS—can gradually yellow from UV exposure and aging. In many cases it takes several years before the change is noticeable, and it may be subtle rather than dramatic.
Material matters more than the overall case color. Steel with a white coating may remain white for a very long time, but plastic trim, front panels, and accessories can age differently. One older build developed a slight ivory tint in its plastic after many years, and the unevenness was more noticeable when compared with the metal parts.
I wouldn’t avoid a white case solely because of this. If the color doesn’t matter to you, black is the safer choice cosmetically, but a white case kept away from direct sunlight can stay attractive for a long time. The most likely outcome is gradual, minor discoloration—not sudden yellowing after a year or two.
Several people report that their white builds still look normal after two to six years, even in warm rooms. Keeping the PC out of direct sunlight and using blinds when the sun is strongest should reduce the chance of noticeable discoloration. Normal room heat alone probably won’t make a big difference unless the case is exposed to unusually high temperatures.
