I'm looking for a small, tidy controller I can keep on my desk to run one or more PWM fans for personal cooling. Ideally, it would be powered over USB so I could disconnect it easily, rather than using a traditional PC case fan controller. I have limited room, but there's enough space under my monitor for 120 mm or 140 mm fans, and I'd prefer something that doesn't look too bulky.

AC Infinity makes compact fan controllers that can work well for this kind of setup. They’re designed to control external fans and are much neater than adapting a full PC case controller.
There are also inexpensive USB fan adapter and controller kits available for 120 mm fans. Look for one that supports PWM or variable-speed control and provides enough current for the fan you plan to use.
A dedicated desk fan would be the simplest solution, although it may not work if you’re short on desk space.
Noctua’s NV-FS1 is another option worth checking out. It’s made specifically for using a standard computer fan as a small personal desk fan.
I don’t really have room for a conventional desk fan, but I do have space beneath my monitor for one or two 120 mm or 140 mm fans.
