How Can I Legitimately Get More Control Over My Bark-Managed Phone?

I received a Samsung Galaxy A16 with Bark Technologies' restrictions when I was 12. I'm now 15 and will turn 16 soon, but the controls have become increasingly restrictive over the past few years. Most social media is blocked, and I'm mainly limited to WhatsApp and Spotify. I can currently call or text only six approved contacts, while contacting anyone else requires permission and an explanation. I'm exhausted by how little control I have over my own phone. My brother has temporarily bypassed some settings, but I don't want to break anything or evade safeguards. How does Bark work with a Samsung phone, and what is the proper way to ask for these restrictions to be changed or removed as I get older?

If your parents won’t change the setup, another option is discussing a separate phone plan or device that you purchase yourself when you’re able to do so. However, because you’re still a minor, your parents may still set household rules, and you should make sure any new arrangement is safe and openly agreed upon.

Bark’s controls are usually managed through a parent account or management profile, so the phone itself may not be able to remove them. The legitimate route is to talk with your parents and ask for specific changes, such as adding trusted contacts, allowing certain apps, or setting a review date. If you’re not comfortable or safe discussing it alone, involve another trusted adult.

One practical compromise is to discuss what freedom you need and what responsibilities you’ll accept in return. You could propose a written plan with agreed contact and app permissions, screen-time limits, and regular check-ins. Showing that you’re asking for graduated independence rather than unrestricted access may make the conversation more productive.
