I'm locked out of my Apple Account and currently going through Apple's automated account recovery process. I started the request through iforgot.apple.com, and the confirmation said recovery instructions would be sent to my trusted phone number on September 22 at 9:31 a.m. PDT—a seven-day wait. The status page still shows about five days remaining.
I understand the delay is meant to prevent unauthorized takeovers, but being unable to access purchases, subscriptions, and other Apple services for more than a week is frustrating. From what I've read, Apple Support and store staff cannot manually shorten the recovery period, and repeatedly submitting requests or trying to sign in may reset or extend the countdown. The recovery instructions are also sent to the trusted phone number rather than by email.
Has anyone found a legitimate way to provide additional identity verification and reduce the waiting period, or is waiting until the specified time the only option? If the text or call does not arrive, can I simply return to iforgot.apple.com once the countdown ends?

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a legitimate way to shorten the recovery timer. The status page explains that support cannot override it, and if a faster verification route existed, it would normally be offered there. Starting another request or repeatedly attempting access could make the wait longer, so it is safest to leave the current recovery request alone and wait it out.
Apple’s recovery delay is specifically designed so that even support cannot bypass it. Additional identity documents or an in-person visit generally will not accelerate the process. Once the stated recovery period ends, you can go directly to iforgot.apple.com and follow the instructions there—you do not necessarily have to wait for the SMS or phone call to arrive.
The only possible exception would be if you selected an option saying you no longer had access to something, and you now have access to it again. Otherwise, reports that changing networks or using a familiar location might reduce the wait are anecdotal and could just as easily restart the recovery process. I would not risk changing anything unless the recovery page specifically tells you to.

That helps—so the text or call is more of a notification, while the website should still work once the timer reaches zero.
