Is a 650W PSU enough for an RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 upgrade?

I'm planning to replace my RX 6600 XT with either an RTX 5050 or RTX 5060. Would my 650W power supply be sufficient with an Intel i5-12400, ASUS B760M-K D4 motherboard, and 16GB of RAM? I'm also wondering whether either card would be a worthwhile upgrade from my current GPU.

Yes, a decent-quality 650W PSU should comfortably handle either the RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 with an i5-12400. Make sure the power supply is from a reputable brand and is in good condition.

As a practical comparison, people have successfully run systems with CPUs and GPUs that draw more power than yours on 500–650W supplies. Your i5-12400 and either of these cards should be well within that range.

The 5050 probably isn’t a very compelling upgrade from an RX 6600 XT, since the performance increase may be fairly small. The RTX 5060 would make more sense if the pricing is reasonable.

A 650W unit should also leave you some room for a stronger midrange card, such as an RTX 5070 or RX 9060 XT, assuming the PSU has the required connectors and is a quality model.
