My husband started a voice recording on his Apple Watch while it was near our kitchen and bathroom. The recording begins with a short sentence from me that seems to be from the previous day. It then includes normal sounds from the kitchen, such as pots and pans, along with a conversation between my son and me. Suddenly, a man's voice appears, ranting and swearing, and it sounds almost as though he is responding to us. I did not call anyone, and I do not remember having the television on. My son had a cellphone on the kitchen counter, but he says he was not playing a podcast or video. We live in the country, so could the watch somehow have picked up audio from a nearby tractor, radio, or other wireless signal? I am trying to understand what could explain this recording.

The watch microphone records nearby sound; it does not normally tune into radio, walkie-talkie, CB, or other wireless frequencies. The most likely explanations are audio playing from another device, sound coming through a wall or vent, or an issue with the recording file itself. Check the cellphone, tablets, computers, smart speakers, and Bluetooth devices that were nearby, including their browser and app history.
The important detail is whether the man’s voice overlaps the kitchen sounds or replaces them. If the pots, pans, and conversation continue underneath his voice, it could be audio coming from a nearby speaker or a problem with the file. If all the household sound suddenly disappears, the recording may contain a separate section that was accidentally joined or played back incorrectly. Listen with headphones and check the waveform or timestamps.
Try a controlled test: place the watch in the same location, turn off or move every phone and Bluetooth device, and make a short recording while someone talks nearby. Also save a copy of the original recording before editing or sharing it. If the strange voice appears again, compare the file on the watch and on the paired phone; if it only happens during playback on one device, the issue may be with syncing or the audio app rather than something the microphone captured.
