My case is fairly small, so I installed a fan in the bottom intake position to improve airflow. The graphics card actually became noticeably quieter afterward. My brother warned that blowing air directly at the GPU from below could damage it or reduce its lifespan, but I have been using this setup for nearly three years without any obvious problems. I have occasionally experienced crashes and sudden restarts, though those seemed related to outdated drivers and loose cables. Is a bottom intake fan safe, and could it be responsible for those issues?

A bottom intake fan will not damage the GPU. It is simply supplying cooler air to the graphics card, which can help it run quieter and cooler. The clearance in your setup appears sufficient, so there is no obvious concern unless the fan is physically touching the card or causing excessive vibration. Sudden restarts during heavy GPU use are more suggestive of a power supply issue, unstable overclock, overheating, or a loose connection than the fan itself. Black screens without a reboot can be driver-related, so updating the drivers is still worthwhile.
There is no general airflow direction that will harm a graphics card. Bottom intake fans are commonly used to feed fresh air directly into the GPU. Your arrangement appears to leave healthy clearance, and the lower noise suggests the card is benefiting from the additional airflow.
