I have an HP Victus gaming laptop running Windows 11 that randomly behaves as if the lid has been closed. When this happens, the built-in display and keyboard turn off, while the laptop continues working normally with an external monitor and keyboard. Event Viewer reports that the system entered Modern Standby because of the lid sensor. I already changed the lid-close action to "Do nothing" for both battery and plugged-in modes, so the laptop does not enter regular sleep, but the internal screen and keyboard still shut off. Is there another way to disable the lid sensor or prevent it from turning off the built-in hardware?

If Windows is already set to do nothing when the lid closes, this probably is not a normal power-plan setting. The lid is usually detected by a small magnetic sensor, so a faulty or misaligned sensor could be falsely reporting that the lid is shut. The practical fix may require opening the laptop and disconnecting or replacing that sensor, but that can be risky and may affect the warranty. It would be better to have the laptop inspected before making hardware changes.
It’s worth confirming that both the battery and AC settings are set to “Do nothing,” but those settings mainly control sleep or hibernation. They may not override the hardware response that disables the built-in display and keyboard when the system receives a lid-closed signal. Since the event log specifically identifies the lid as the cause and external peripherals continue working, a malfunctioning lid sensor is a more likely explanation than a simple Windows sleep setting.
That matches what I’m seeing. When the normal lid action is enabled, the lock screen appears and audio stops, but with “Do nothing” selected, the laptop stays running while only the internal display and keyboard shut off.
