Why is Assassin’s Creed Shadows stuck around 50–55 FPS despite DLSS and frame generation?

I'm playing Assassin's Creed Shadows at 1440p on a laptop with an 8 GB RTX 3080 and an i7-11800H. I have dynamic resolution enabled with a 100 FPS target, DLSS set to Quality, and frame generation turned on. Most other settings are between High and Medium, with ray tracing set to Diffuse.

Even with dynamic resolution and frame generation enabled, the game stays around 50–55 FPS instead of lowering the resolution and approaching my target. The performance graph shows that the NVIDIA GPU is being used, while the integrated Intel graphics are disabled. The game also reports roughly 6.8 GB of VRAM usage out of a 6.8 GB budget, despite the card having 8 GB available. Is this expected behavior for this hardware, or is there a setting or optimization issue causing the low frame rate?

There appear to be optimization problems affecting NVIDIA GPUs in this game. Some players see near-100% GPU utilization while the card’s power draw remains below what it should be capable of, which can limit performance even when the GPU looks fully loaded. The VRAM display may also be showing the game’s configured budget rather than the card’s total physical memory, so 6.8 GB out of 6.8 GB does not necessarily mean all 8 GB is unavailable.

It’s difficult to tell whether that frame rate is normal without the hardware details. An 8 GB laptop RTX 3080 paired with an i7-11800H can still struggle with this game at 1440p, especially with ray tracing enabled. Also, frame generation usually builds on the game’s base FPS rather than replacing the rendering workload, so it may not overcome a GPU bottleneck by itself.
