I suspect my motherboard and/or processor may be failing, so I'm considering replacing them and possibly upgrading other components as well. I'm in the United States with a budget of up to $1,000. My main games are Battlefield 6 and RPGs/MMOs, played at 1080p on an ultrawide monitor.

What would be worthwhile replacements or upgrades while keeping as many compatible parts as possible?

Your 600W power supply is worth checking carefully before installing anything new. Thermaltake Smart models vary in quality, and an aging or unreliable unit can cause symptoms that look like a bad motherboard or processor. I’d consider replacing it with a reputable 650W–750W Gold-rated unit from a well-reviewed series. Also test the system with one RAM stick at a time and check temperatures before assuming both core components need replacement.
If the motherboard and CPU are the only faulty parts, staying on the AM4 platform could save a lot of money. A Ryzen 7 5700X3D would be a major gaming upgrade over the Ryzen 7 2700, especially for Battlefield and CPU-heavy MMOs. Your existing DDR4 memory and cooler should generally carry over. Before replacing the board, update the X470 BIOS if the system is stable enough to do so, and confirm the board’s CPU support list.
If the X470 board is actually defective, a B550 motherboard paired with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D would be a sensible replacement combination. It lets you reuse the DDR4 RAM, graphics card, case, and probably the liquid cooler. Look for a board with the rear connectivity and M.2 slots you need rather than spending extra on unnecessary features.
A Ryzen 5 5600X is also a reasonable lower-cost option, but the 5700X3D is the better choice if the budget allows and you want to keep the system for several more years.
