I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 9700X last year but have continued using my RTX 3060. It still works, but it has started to feel dated. I currently game at 1080p and am also considering moving to a higher-resolution monitor. With a more flexible budget now, what graphics card would be a good match for this CPU? I've been considering used RTX 3080s and newer cards such as the RX 9070 XT, but I'm unsure which option offers the best value.

If you’re staying at 1080p, you don’t need to spend as much. Cards like the RX 9060 XT 16GB, RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, or Intel Arc B580 would be more appropriate. However, since you’re already thinking about a monitor upgrade, moving to 1440p with a 9070, 9070 XT, or similar mid-to-high-end card would make better use of the 9700X.
For a new build focused on 1440p, the RX 9070 XT is probably the strongest recommendation. It offers a major jump over the RTX 3060 and should pair very well with the 9700X. I’d upgrade to a 1440p monitor at the same time, ideally one running at 165 Hz or higher.
I made a similar upgrade from a 3080-class card to an RX 9070 XT and have been very happy with the performance. I’d avoid paying a premium for a three-generation-old card unless you find an unusually good used deal, since current-generation cards provide better efficiency and features.
The RX 9070 is another sensible choice if the XT model is too expensive, while the RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti may be worth considering if you specifically need Nvidia features such as CUDA or better software support. Otherwise, the 9070-series cards generally offer better gaming value than buying an older used RTX 3080.
