I have an ASUS TUF Gaming B450-PLUS motherboard running a Ryzen 5 3600 on Windows 10. I'm planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and increase my memory to 32GB, but I'm unsure about the BIOS update process. The motherboard is currently on BIOS version 2008. The ASUS support page lists newer versions with notes such as "Update AGESA," and I'm not sure whether I need to install those versions one at a time or whether I can go straight to the newest release. What exactly is AGESA, and what is the safest way to update the BIOS before changing the CPU?

You generally don’t need to apply every BIOS release in sequence unless ASUS specifically marks a version as a required bridge update or gives special installation instructions. Download the latest non-beta BIOS listed for the exact motherboard model, verify the file and model carefully, and use the BIOS utility to flash it before replacing the processor. Avoid interrupting power during the update, then load the default settings once it finishes before configuring your RAM profile and other options.
AGESA is AMD firmware code included inside the motherboard BIOS. When an update says it includes an AGESA update, that means the BIOS already contains the newer AGESA version—you don’t need to install AGESA separately. In most cases, you can flash the newest stable, non-beta BIOS directly rather than installing every version in between. Do the update while the Ryzen 5 3600 is still installed, using the board’s built-in BIOS flash utility and a FAT32-formatted USB drive. After the update completes, shut down the computer and install the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. BIOS settings such as XMP/DOCP may reset, so you’ll likely need to enable your memory profile again.
