Why is my iPhone 13 overheating and draining battery so fast?

I've had my iPhone 13 for about 3 years, and recently it's been overheating like crazy. Just this past week, it gets so hot that I get a temperature warning. Plus, the battery drains super fast – like going from 100% to 25% in just 2.5 hours during a video call, and it even drains quickly just when I'm using apps like Instagram. I'm not sure if this is due to malware, a software glitch, or if it's related to the prepaid SIM I just inserted. I'm on the latest version of iOS and I've already tried using low power mode, rebooting the phone, and closing unused apps. Any thoughts?

First off, you might want to check your battery health. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and see what it says. If the maximum capacity is lower than 80%, it's time for a battery replacement. That can definitely cause overheating and fast drain.

My battery's maximum capacity is at 84%. Is that bad?

I've only seen a temperature warning when using my phone outside on a really hot day with direct sunlight. If you’re indoors and it’s not too hot, something else might be going on. Maybe heat from running too many apps?

Yeah, I was indoors when it happened, and there wasn’t any intense heat. No AC, though.
