I'm trying to free up space on my system drive. If I copy the contents of the Program Files folder to another drive and then delete the original files, will that damage Windows or make my installed programs stop working? What is the safest way to reclaim space?

If the system drive is too small, adding a larger SSD and cloning the old drive is a better solution than manually moving Program Files. Another option is to reinstall selected applications onto the other drive, provided the installer lets you choose a destination.
