Can I Upgrade My iBUYPOWER RTX 5070 to a Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti?

I have an iBUYPOWER Y40 desktop with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F and a PNY RTX 5070 12GB. I'm considering replacing it with a used Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti WINDFORCE OC 16GB. The current card appears to use a single 16-pin power connector, and the Gigabyte model looks like it uses the same connection. Will the upgrade simply involve removing the old card and connecting the existing cable, or will I need a different adapter? I'm also vertically mounting the replacement card and want to know whether Gigabyte cards have any known thermal paste leakage concerns in that orientation.

The two cards use the same 16-pin 12VHPWR-style connector, so you likely won’t need a different adapter. Just confirm that the cable is rated for at least 450W, plug it in fully, and avoid sharply bending it right at the connector.

I checked the cable and it is marked as rated for 450W, so that part should be covered.

The connector should be compatible, but also check the power supply and the card’s physical dimensions. A quality 750W-or-higher PSU is a sensible target for a 5070 Ti, and the vertically mounted card needs enough room for its length, thickness, and power cable bend radius.

The PSU appears to meet the requirement, and I’m measuring the available space before installing the new card.

If the card fits and the power supply is adequate, the swap should be fairly straightforward. Remove the old drivers or use a clean driver installation if necessary, secure the new card properly, and make sure the 16-pin connector is completely seated. Vertical mounting itself should not cause thermal paste to leak; airflow and clearance around the cooler matter much more.
