Hey everyone! I just built a new gaming rig mostly for gaming, but I'll also be doing some audio mixing and editing. Here are my specs: Ryzen 7 7800x3d, Radeon 9070xt, and an x870 Steel Series WiFi mobo. I'm considering my RAM options: should I go with 2x 32GB sticks running at 6400MHz or get 4 sticks total (2x 32GB and 2x 16GB) for 96GB at a slower speed of 3600MHz? I'm only getting the 3600MHz speed because of the four sticks. What's the best choice for gaming performance?

Honestly, even 64GB is a stretch for gaming. I'd lean towards getting 2x16GB at 6000MT/s. Your performance will really benefit from the higher speed, and 64GB might be slow if your memory controller can't handle it. Keep it simple with fewer sticks.
You really don't need 96GB for gaming! A solid 2x32GB at 6400MHz is your best bet. It's cleaner, and you won’t have to deal with the lower speeds that come with using four sticks. Plus, DDR5 at those speeds is ideal for your setup!
Just go for the 2x32GB 6400MHz setup. Modern gaming titles don't need more than 32GB at this point; you’re better off with the faster RAM for better overall performance.
For gaming, I'd suggest sticking with 2x32GB DDR5 at 6400MHz. Most games don't even utilize 32GB, let alone 64GB, so going for the faster speed makes more sense. Anything over 32GB is generally overkill for gaming, especially now.
That sounds reasonable! But I do have some audio tasks that might need more RAM.
If you're considering using all four sticks, just be aware that it might slow everything down to 3600MHz. Most Ryzen chips handle better with two sticks, and if you're not maxing out your current 32GB, why bother with more? Sell the slower sticks if you don't need them!

That makes sense, especially since I’ll only be gaming and doing a bit of audio work!
